Hot Dawgz N' Handrails
9/20/09 - View Photos
Saturday - September 19 Big Bear, CA marked the 6th annual Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails competition. The mountain was packed with thousands of people stoked to witness the hammers being dropped @ Bear. The event began taking shape in the morning with truckload after truckload of ice being brought in and blown throughout the course. Ellis was there in full effect, giving away tons of stickers, beanies and shirts to the lucky few skilled enough in Bear Pong.

During the competition the Vendor Village was the place to be. Each vendor had a game for everyone to play, from spinning prize wheels to funny looking beer-bongs with milk, each company parted with tons of schwag.

Ellis Am Devin Allen was there representing, making it all the way to the semi-finals. The setup for Hot Dawgz was different from last year, this year riders had the option of a forked run. On the left there was a down-flat down elbow rail to a flat box mounted on pyramid box. The right side had a down box that led into a wall ride or down C-rail, which lead into a pyramid box at the bottom. The runs were tight, with bales of hay lining the outside of the course, sometimes even being hit as an option, the pace was fast and the tricks came faster.

In the end, Scott Vine took home the win for a 2nd year in a row, while Ted Borland laid down best trick with a smooth tailpress thru the entire elbow kink rail. After the comp the festivities kicked off with the screening of Bear's "Parkumentary" and Stepchild/ThirtyTwo's new film, This Video Sucks. Both films left the audience wanting more, but was just what we all needed to get our stoke on for the upcoming season. Thanks again to all the staff @ Big Bear for putting on such an awesome event, we'll see you all on the slopes soon.
